To order either a traditional canvas frame or a canvas floater frame, you need accurate measurements of your stretched canvas.

Step-by-step measuring guide
- Lay the stretched canvas flat. Put the canvas on a clean, level, hard surface, not a bed or a soft table. Make sure nothing can scratch the front of the canvas.
- Check the canvas is square. Measure each diagonal: top left to bottom right, and top right to bottom left. A noticeable difference between the two means the canvas is out of square.
- Measure the width and height. Measure the width and the height at three different points across the front, always in millimetres. Record the largest measurement for each.
- Measure the depth. Measure and record the depth of the canvas. This matters most for a canvas floater frame, where you need a frame with an internal depth close to the depth of your canvas.
Three tips
- Never trust the packaging. The sizes printed on labels or packaging are often approximate only. Always measure the canvas yourself, so that you do not order the wrong size of frame.
- Use a metal tape measure. Do not use a fabric or plastic tape measure. They are notoriously inaccurate.
- Double-check everything. Check twice, check a third time, then ask someone else to check. Custom-made items cannot be refunded or exchanged, so the sizes need to be right.
