Ensuring Perfect Framing and Mounting Display
Measuring an art print correctly is a crucial step in ensuring that it is framed or mounted beautifully, whether the border is displayed or hidden. This guide will walk you through the process of measuring an art print with its border, offering you two main options: framing it with the border and title on display or mounting and framing the image with the border hidden.
Why Accurate Measuring Matters
Measuring prints with borders requires care and accuracy. This guide walks you through the correct process so your frame and mount fit perfectly.
To begin, gather the following supplies and get prepared:
Start by laying the art print on a flat, clean surface. Ensure there is enough space to spread out the measuring tape or ruler comfortably.
Option 1: Measuring to Frame with the Border and Title on Display
If you want to frame your art print with the border and title visible, follow these steps:
Step 1: Measure the Entire Print
Begin by measuring
the full width of the print,
including the border. Place the measuring tape at one edge of the print and stretch it across to the
other edge. Note the measurement and write it down. Repeat this process for the full height of the
print, from the top edge to the bottom edge, including the border.
Step 2: Double-check Measurements
It is essential to
double-check your measurements
to avoid any mistakes. Measuring twice ensures accuracy and prevents costly framing errors.
Step 3: Choose a Suitable Frame
Based on your
measurements, select a frame that suits
the print and your decor. The entire print with the border and title will be on display.
Option 2: Measuring to Mount and Frame with the Border Hidden
If you prefer to hide the border and only display the image, follow these steps:
Step 1: Measure the Image Area
Focus on the image
itself, excluding the border.
Measure the width of the image by placing the measuring tape at one edge of the printed image and
stretching it across to the other edge. Note the measurement and write it down. Repeat this process for
the height of the image, from the top edge to the bottom edge, excluding the border.
Step 2: Border Overlap
To hide the border, our
website will automatically make the
mount aperture 6mm smaller than the exact image size you enter. This means a 3mm overlap on each side so
the border will be concealed and focus will be kept on the image.
Step 3: Double-check Measurements
Double-check your measurements to ensure accuracy. Even a slight mistake can lead to an unattractive
final presentation.
Step 4: Select a Frame or Mount
Choose a frame and mount that our website that suits your requirements. We will manufacture everything
to fit the exact sizes you have entered.
Step 5: Avoid Unnecessary Trimming
To avoid having to trim your print, make sure the external mount size or frame size detailed during the
design process is greater than the full size of your print(including it's border). If the external mount
size/frame size is smaller than your print size, you would need to trim the print down to get it to fit
into the frame.
Conclusion
Measuring an art print with its own border requires careful attention to detail. Whether you choose to frame it with the border and title visible or to mount and frame the image with the border hidden, following these steps will help you achieve a stunning final presentation. Accurate measurements and the right framing options ensure that your art print is displayed in the best possible way, adding beauty and elegance to your space.
