A floater frame leaves a gap around your stretched canvas, so that the canvas appears to float. This guide shows how to fit your canvas securely with the Velcro dots supplied.
Before you start
- Your canvas must already be stretched
- Choose a floater frame with a depth to suit your canvas
- Work on a clean, flat surface
Safety note: For extra security, drive screws through the back of the frame into the stretcher bars (see the video for details).
Securing your canvas with Velcro
Each floater frame comes with self-adhesive Velcro dots. How many depends on the size of the frame.
Repositioning the canvas
Velcro lets you lift the canvas out gently and reposition it if you need to.
Extra security for large canvases
For extra security, especially with a large or heavy canvas, screw through the back of the floater frame into the stretcher bars. Use screws of the right length so they cannot come through the front of your canvas.
Tips
- Work in a clean, well-lit area
- Wear gloves to keep fingerprints off the edges of the canvas
- Check that every Velcro dot is making good contact
- Use Velcro and screws together for the most secure fixing
