A picture mount sets off your artwork and keeps it away from the glazing. This guide and video show how to order one online.
What a mount is for
Picture mounts (also called photo mounts or mat boards) are a standard part of professional framing. They add depth to your artwork and help to protect it.
- Appearance. Gives your artwork a border that draws the eye to it.
- Protection. Keeps the artwork from touching the glazing, which reduces the risk of moisture damage.
- Support. Helps to keep the artwork flat over time.
Types of mount
- Single mount. A clean, simple look that suits most artwork and modern rooms.
- Double mount. Two layered boards, often in different colours, for extra depth.
- Textured mount. Linen, suede or other textures for a tactile finish.
Choosing the right mount
Think about colour, size and texture, so that the mount complements your artwork and your room. Neutral colours are a safe choice; bolder colours make more of a statement.
