How To... Measure a Limited Edition Print
Measuring a limited edition print correctly is a crucial step in ensuring that it is framed and mounted with
the precise borders. This guide will walk you through the process of measuring a limited edition print to
ensure its proper display.
Preparation
To measure a limited edition print for framing with precise borders, follow these steps to get prepared:
Metal measuring tape or sturdy ruler
Step-by-Step Measurement Process
Prepare
the Workspace
- Lay the photo/print on a flat, clean surface with enough space around
it.
- Make sure the print is completely flat with no curling or bending at the
edges.
Determine
the Required Border
- Decide on the width of the border you want to leave around the print. Here, we are
aiming for around 10mm (1 cm) on the top, left, and right sides.
- For the bottom border, ensure it is wide enough to accommodate the title and signature
of the artist.
Measure
the Print Dimensions
- Lay the print flat on a clean, smooth surface.
- Using the measuring tape or ruler, measure the height and width of the print including
the additional borders previously determined. Write down these measurements.
Measure
the Paper Dimensions
- Measure the total size of the paper, so you can ensure it will fit into the frame
without needing to be trimmed. This is achieved by ensuring the external mount size is
greater than the paper size of the print.
- Record these final dimensions.
Order
Online
- Enter the two sizes noted down in step 3 into our website.
- Select the single or double mount option and ensure the EXACT SIZE option is selected
as we want the aperture of the mount to be the exact size entered.
- Ensure the external border size is greater than the paper size noted down in step 4. If
it isn't, you can increase the mount border widths until it is.
- Proceed through the other framing options. We recommend the barrier board option is
selected in the Extras tab as this will protect the print from the MDF backing board by
creating a barrier between the two.
By following these steps, you can measure and frame your limited edition print perfectly, ensuring the artwork, title, and signature are all beautifully displayed.
Final Thoughts
Accurate measuring is the foundation of a great framed result. Take your time, measure twice, and you'll
enjoy a
perfect fit for years to come. Happy framing!
