Your canvas board or artist board sits in a recess at the front of the frame, with a slim 5mm edge around it. Nothing overlaps the artwork, so the whole painting stays on show.
Inset board frames are an innovative and elegant solution for framing various types of artwork created on artist boards. As opposed to traditional framing methods that often overlap the edges of the art, inset board frames embrace a more refined design where the canvas board fits seamlessly within the recess at the frame. This method enhances the aesthetics whilst not intruding on its visual boundaries.
Inset Frames are designed to house artwork that has been painted on to board. The artwork is usually completed in either oil or acrylic paint, applied directly onto a 3mm (approximately) artist board. When placed in a frame, the edges of the artist board will remain visible, ensuring that none of the artwork is concealed behind a rebate or mount. You should provide the precise dimensions of your artwork's board, as the frame will be crafted a few millimeters larger to accommodate slight movement. These frames will come with velcro strips that can be utilized to secure the board within the frame. For added stability, you might consider gluing the board into the frame to prevent it from dislodging. Inset Frames are supplied without any glazing or backing board and are NOT suitable for stretched canvasses or any paper based artwork.
