From boxing gloves to champagne bottles, bike saddles and Only Fools and Horses memorabilia, there isn't much we can't handle. No two framing jobs are the same, and we have seen some pretty unusual pieces over the years. Some are harder to frame than others, but we love a challenge. Here are a few favourites, and how we did them.
Picture frames and mounts
A memory in a well-chosen mounted picture frame can bring a home to life. Whether it's a photo, a picture or something your child made at school, we can design a frame that complements the piece and sits comfortably with everything else on the wall.
A frame often needs as much thought as the artwork. It should be made of good materials and suit the room. Without that thought, the picture won't make the impact you want.
Box frames
Our customers love to show off their prized possessions: special photos, keepsakes, sports collectables and memorabilia. But what do you do when your favourite things are too thick for a standard frame?
A box frame, or a picture frame with an internal box, is the answer. It has a spacer between the glazing and the backing to give the depth you need. Box frames are ideal for signed football shirts, cricket bats, clay prints of your child's hands, a collage of family holidays, or your great-grandfather's war medals. Don't hide your collections in the wardrobe. With a little creativity you can bring your life's achievements to the fore.
Some examples
A Slayer drumstick. This piece has real wow factor. The drumstick belonged to Paul Bostaph of the band Slayer, and it is framed with artwork and 3 plectrums behind ArtGlass, which protects the contents and reduces reflection. Putting everything together in the right way was a challenge, but we were delighted with the result. So was the customer, who now has it hanging proudly at home.
A message from the Queen. We love framing 100th birthday messages from the Queen. This one is in a gold frame from 4walls by Larson-Juhl UK, glazed with Artglass by Groglass to reduce reflection and give UV protection. We'd be glad to do the same for anyone with something similar.
Tower of London poppies. These are among our favourite things to frame, and we have a range of frames designed specifically for the Tower of London Remembrance ceramic poppies. You can buy a kit online to frame your own Tower of London Poppy. The kits come in dark brown, white or black and in three layouts, and they enclose the poppy completely.
The one that got away. Finally, a job we were happy not to do. A long-standing customer was riding his brand new, very expensive race bike in a road race when a deer ran across the course. The result is clear from the photo. The slightly bruised cyclist wanted the broken bike framed as a reminder. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately for us, the insurance company needed it back before settling the claim. We still have no idea how we would have framed it.
